Good evening and welcome to the official MABW forecast, UTC November 12, 2025, 23:27. Which in Maine time is 6:27. Rollover time, as I like to call it, is when we rollover to the new universal day, and it’s also when the data from SWPC updates.

Currently, I’m seeing bad alignment of the arriving solar wind with earth’s magnetic field. Solar wind is North, with current conditions being Solar Wind Speed: 838 km/sec, Solar Wind Magnetic Fields: Bt 24 nT, Bz 8 nT.

Updated, UTC 23:38

Solar Wind Speed: 856 km/sec
Solar Wind Magnetic Fields: Bt 22 nT, Bz 3 nT

However, that’s a corker of a solar wind speed. I saw that a lot last night- wind fluctuating wildly from negative to positive with huge dips.

When this happens, I go to my low energy protons to see if there are any clues. And indeed, upon a perusal of the ACE real time solar wind, there was an enormous jump in those bad boys, they fell off, but are now climbing again. Remember, the low energy protons are the clues that tell us high energy particles may not be far behind.

But will they align? This is always the state of play and we often don’t know until an hour before.

We do know that a mild to moderate level substorm is currently in progress.

We do know that we are still under a severe G4 storming watch.

And unfortunately, we do know that clouds are due to roll in anytime after 9 or 10 pm statewide. Most of the state is currently partly cloudy.

So, yes, we have storming activity, but, currently it is not aligned well, though I do see that it may eventually snap into place- but probably not until we’re under clouds. Will we catch a break? Not known yet. It’s a matter of watching and waiting. And as always- keeping your dial locked on the MABW.
