Greetings and welcome to the almost-new universal day. I’m writing a little bit earlier because it’s getting darker earlier. It’s clear up in the county, according to NOAA anyhow, and a look at the Katahdin webcam reveals our patron mountain in all her glory and majesty beneath a blue raspberry sky. There is a rather pesty substorm happening today, in that it kind of jumps all over the place, and doesn’t settle in. But, we’ve got a full moon to contend with, so, one must let go of a little mischief. Truly, the moon is the moon. We must relent.

The grass here down on earth is instantly greening up with the sudden application of buckets of rain. The mega munchers have been appreciating this bounty, and danged if I can keep the pony in. She came trotting up from somewhere this evening, apparently having been out on the lam for quite some time. She’s smart enough to avoid cars, Animal Control Officers, and do-gooders. But, she’s a good Aurora hunting buddy. Sometimes, it beats standing around in the cold to have a nice broad back to lean against or even sit upon, if I am to be endured. I have been bucked off. Apparently I was interfering with the maximum consumption of grass.

I don’t think there are much chances tonight, though. I know we have many visitors here right now, and I wish I could wave my magic Weather Witch wand and conjure clear skies and aurora for you. Alas, I cannot. There is a very slim chance that folks in the clear up in the county might serendipitously be positioned with camera during a burst of activity. I will be watching very closely tonight. I would suggest keeping an eye on Glendale, because of the “shout out” area where people in Europe are seeing Aurora, if they are in the clear and it’s strong enough to get through the moon. There’s a lot of conflicting data right now but the long and short of it is- yes, a substorm is happening. Yes, it is mainly cloudy over Maine except in the County. Yes, it is a fickle substorm and comes and goes. Yes, chances are very slim but it could happen. And, of course, I will keep you posted.
